iPhone 5 Running iOS 6.1.4 Has Been Jailbroken

Few weeks left before Apple releases the latest iteration of the iPhone top the world, that is, iPhone 5S and 5C and something interesting just popped up.

@Winocm, the hacker and coder who tweeted few days back that he had gotten a way to jailbreak both the iPhone 4 and 4S running iOS 6.1.3 just released another pic of an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 with Cydia launched and running as seen in the image below. This jailbreak is for both GSM and CDMA iPhone 5


What does this means? This means that someone had succeeded in jailbreaking the iPhone 4, 4S and 5. iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 is jailbroken. Although we don't know if this jailbreak is tethered or untethered yet.

Of course, many a people who upgraded their devices to iOS 6.1.3 may have given up hope but it seems that hope may be re-kindle again with this.

One problem though even as excited as many may seem is that iOS 7 is almost here and many would want to upgrade to it relatively making this new jailbreak if it goes public less relevant.

However, achieving this feat is outstanding and am sure accolades are already pouring out to him.

Lets hope, the process is made public so that those that still have an onerous attitude towards iOS 7 can remain with iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 and jailbroken.

Chinese Woman Almost Lost Eye When Using iPhone

Using an iPhone in China is now a thing for concern these days with the rate at with domestic disasters are happening while using Apple iPhone.

The first was a woman being electrocuted to death, followed by a man thrown into coma when electrocuted by his iPhone 4 and now this, where exploding iPhone sent debris into Li's eye.

According to Chinese woman, the explosion sent particles of the phone into her eyes and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was eventually treated. Previously, the woman stated that she had dropped the phone once which left a small crack in the upper right corner, but claims the phone was still useable. 

 
When she looked at the device to check it, Li then discovered the touchscreen was not responding when she tried to end the call. After a few more tries, the screen exploded.

Li said she felt some debris shooting into her eyes. "I could not open my eyes," she recalled. Her colleagues rushed her to the hospital where the doctor found her eyeball red and inflamed, and identified a scratch mark which suggested an object had scratched it.

You will recall that Apple already started a campaign where owners of counterfeit, defective and questionable Apple adapters can get a new recommended Apple adapter for a subsidized value after exchanging these non-recommended adapters. 

While Apple products are not the first to explode or cause harm, Apple gets lots of publicity when such happens when using her devices.

Woman Shocked to Death While Receiving a Call on Her iPhone 5

A new information I stumbled upon not too long was a shocking one; one that is almost unbelievable.

It was said that a woman was electrocuted to death while making a call on her iPhone 5. 

According to CNET, a 23 year old Chinese woman by the name Ma Ailum from China's Xinjiang region was allegedly electrocuted when she answered a call while charging her iPhone 5 as reported by the Chinese based news agency Xinhua.

According to Apple's spokes person, the company is "deeply saddened to learn this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the Ma family". Apple "will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter".

We have of course heard of iPhone 5 getting seriously hot when in use and charging. We have also heard malfunctioning iPhone 5 resulting in it getting burnt. However, iPhone 5 electrocuting someone to death while charging and answering a call? Its a first and almost unbelievable.

Consequently, it would be really important for Apple to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and make the public aware of the results of such investigation.

TinyUmbrella Now Supports iOS 6.1.4

TinyUmbrella have been Updated to support iOS 6.1.4 firmware released by Apple few days ago for iPhone 5.

TinyUmbrella saved shsh blobs to your desktop computer and this latest update is version 6.14.00. The update also comes with but fixes.



Unlike iFaith which is only available for Windows computers, TinyUmbrella is available for both Windows and Mac computers. Consequently if you couldn't use iFaith due to your computer type, TinyUmbrella will be your choice software to save your SHSH blobs.
While the usefulness of saving blobs for iPhone 5 might be minute, it wouldn't hurt to have SHSH saved just in case its needed.

How to Save Complete SHSH Blobs for iPhone 5 Running iOS 6.1.4

iFaith version 1.5+ will Save Blobs for iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4.
As you may have heard by now that Apple released iOS 6.1.4 yesterday for iPhone 5 device alone.

This update is minor and seek to improve the audio profile for speakerphone on iPhone 5.

For most people with iPhone 5 that are jailbroken untethered on iOS 6.1.2, it is advised you remain on 6.1.2 and stay away from updating to this new minor update because it will render your device non - jailbreakable.

For those that want to fetch and save their Blobs for the new 6.1.4 update for iPhone 5, iFaith v1.5+ (1.5.8 being the latest) can make it happen.

Follow the guide below to achieve this.

Requirements
  • iFaith version 1.5.8
  • Windows computer
  • iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4
Device
  •  iPhone 5
Note 1
There is no jailbreak for iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4. This guide is just to help you save your Blobs in case you want to restore to it at a later time

Note 2
iPhone 3GS running iOS 6.1.3 was used in this guide but the procedure for iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 is the same.

Procedures

Step 1: Download iFaith v 1.5.8 to your desktop

Step 2: Connect your iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 to the computer with your usb cable

Step 3: Launch iFaith and click on "Show Available SHSH blobs on Server"



Step 4: Now select your device in the list if your device wasn't automatically detected. If auto detected, you would be asked if you want to use your connected device. click Yes.


Step 5: Once connected, click on "Fetch the latest SHSH blobs Apple is actively signing".


iFaith would communicate with device, Apple server etc and get your blobs and APTicket  for your device which will be stored on your computer and also submitted to Cydia.



Step 6: After this, you would be asked if you want to download all available blobs or just a few. Click on Download all available blobs.


Step 7: Select the folder you want the blobs to be saved and click OK.

Step 8: iFaith will download all blobs and would save it on your computer as shown in the image above and you are done.

There it is folks, you have successfully saved your blobs for your iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4

Download Apple's iOS 6.1.4 for iPhone 5

While we are yet waiting for iOS 7 to drop during the WWDC conference by June 10th, Apple have decided to release a new firmware update.

This update iOS 6.1.4 was released few minutes ago and is only compatible for iPhone 5 device.

In case you are in possession of an iPhone 5, please proceed to this link to get your download.
The update process is the same as any other update process via iTunes.


What does new update bring to the iPhone 5 you may ask

Well, an updated audio profile for the speakerphone was implemented in this update.
Furthermore, Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to tackle some issues like Evasi0n exploits and passcode bypassing bug that was found in iOS 6 - 6.1.2.
While the Evasion exploit was patched, rendering many iDevices non - jailbreakable, however, passcode bypassing bug isstill present.

With a company like Apple that take security very seriously, it would be considered unacceptable if the passcode bug isn't resolved as soon as possible, especially as the DoD (Department of Defence) have approved all iOS 6.0 enabled Apple devices to be used by government officials.
Also, Apple is violating some patents in the VPN settings utilized by Apple in their devices and have been asked to pay a fine of $368.2 million and also correct that VPN settings.Perhaps, this update will also address this VPN problem or may not be addressed but may be addressed in iOS 7.

For now, we do not know if this update will be made available to other Apple devices, but right now, this update is only for iPhone 5
