Tutorial: Tecno A+ Rooting and Custom ROM Loading

Note 1: Credits go to Seun Payne of Nairaland
Note 2: Non of these have been modified by me.
Note 3: This article is just to make information more accessible by others that have no idea they can install custom ROMs for A+
Note 4: For any questions, follow the Nairaland link and put your questions there.

First step is to root the device and you can follow the setups here to root

The second step is the CWM as directed below

CWM

It is imperative to note that while cwm isnt a must, if you ever plan to root your phone and enjoy its benefits then you must accept the fact that something might go wrong along the way. with that in mind i usually recommend this step immediately after rooting. if you wont flash cwm, then i will advice against rooting also (there is the door, thanks for stopping by).

1. Go to playstore on your phone and download "mobileuncle tools" (you must be rooted for this app to work).

2. once it is installed, download the cwm from here:http://adf.ly/Vsixf

3. now put the image inside your memory card directly (not in a folder) and open the mobileuncle tools and choose the Recovery Update option. It would be the first one you see on the list.

4. select it and say yes to all it asks..(it wont take advantage of you, I promise).

5. It should reboot into recovery. which is a dark screen with blue text. (in the future, use the power button + volume up button to enter recovery mode)

Now lets back up your phone.

1. you will need at least 2GB free to back up as well as at least 50% bat3. Use the volume buttons to scroll up and down and the power button to make selections.

2. once you are in recovery mode, scroll down to backup and restore and select it. next choose the backup option which is usually the first option. Sit back and relax cuz it takes a while. Once that is done, scroll down to go back and den select the reboot phone option to turn your phone back on

So now we have rooted and backed up our phone. We can even flash superman.

Unbricking
I'll post this part later.

Lets skip to the coolest part.

iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 Untethered Jailbreak Might Be Released Next Week

iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 Untethered Jailbreak Might Be Released next week if everything go as planned. This is the vibes we have been getting of late, especially with the recent tweet made by iH8sn0w on Twitter.

According to info reaching us, the exploits needed to fully jailbreak iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 untethered is available but not totally stable yet for public released but should be in matter of days.

Of course, iOS 7 released yesterday to the world and many would have upgraded to it. Although, the evad3rs team are certain that iOS 7 untethered jailbreak will happen soon enough in coming weeks, yet not so many people want to load the iOS 7 on their devices.

So if you are one of those people that wan to remain with iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4, an untethered jailbreak is closer to you than you might imagine.

Besides, Apple is still signing iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 firmware. It is a good time to quickly backup your SHSH blobs with iFaith locally before its too late.

Backing up your SHSH for iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 gives you the ability to downgrade your firmware in the future in case you got sick of iOS 7. This is mostly useful to iPhone 4 owners.

Stay close to this blog for more mobile info as they arrive.

5 Ways To Sell Your Phone For a New Latest Phone

New phones and devices are constantly released to consumers in a fast way so much that its so difficult to keep up. How do one make sure that he  gets the latest device as its being released on hand?
well, there is a way to achieve that without hurting the pocket deeply, and that way is to constantly sell your device, add a few bucks and you are set to buy a new device. However, the problem is finding a buyer and this where this post becomes useful.

eBay is very popular for its auction prowess and everyone knows it. Here you can put up your phone for sale by registering with eBay and then get a good image of your phone and place the advert. Since eBay is seen by millions of people, you should get a quick offer and therefore sell your phone.

However, you have to be very careful of fake people that may want to scam you of your device so you are advised to only sell to people with good rating and have joined eBay long enough.

Well, this is even a better option for the Nigerian guys who want to sell their phones but can't go through eBay due to limitations.

DealDey is a perfect place to sell your phones. Like eBay, you need to signup and then place a good image of your marchandise on the DealDey webpage with the price and due date. Make sure your price is affordable so that you can quickly get a buyer. You may be surprised that in matters of days, your buyer would come and you will just add few bucks so that you can buy that dream phone.

As at this writing, Amazon is doing a trade - in program for those willing to sell their Phone for a fee.

Its a good way to get rid of that phone so that you can get yourself a new one that would increase your bragging right.
Check out the link provided and see how your wish could be a reality

Yes, nairaland is a good place to auction your phone. You would be surprised at the good deals you would get from selling your phone in Nairaland. This is especially useful to my Nigerian peeps that want to quickly sell their phone to get a new one.

One great thing about selling through nairaland is that you are not paying anyone any commission. Its totally a direct marketing of your phone. All you need do is go to the appropriate forum and announce your intention to see your phone, put all the features and specs and you should get a buyer in no time.

5. Finally, Facebook is the place to get anyone's attention just buy displaying an image of your device. You can also sell anything here.

You can either do a paid advertising or just upload your phone's image and put the details there. Of course people would see it and would attract buyers from every angle.

That is is folks, 5 ways to sell your phone for a new one buy adding small cash to it. Definitely, this would ease the pocket and everyone is happy.

Infinix Mobility: The Way Forward

Infinix, formerly known as Sagem is a smattphone and tablet manufacturing company that currently has 6 market locations which are France, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Currently, Infinix have permeated the Nigerian market well enough alongside Tecno and are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian smartphone market.

Furthermore, their 3 mobile devices product line are Tablet, Smartphone and a Phablet. The latest and flagship phablet is the 5.7 inch Infinix Alpha which is already pulling weight and bringing in the cash daily. However, the competition is ever strong especially from the likes of Tecno-Mobile, Samsung and HTC who are currently controlling a good amount of market share on the Nigeria smartphone industry.

So, what can Infinix do to further increase their fan base and market share?

1. Create more products with good specifications and features. This is of course already on ground and its the reason they are still in business . An attempt to release a device with old technology and specs has highly damaging effects and very difficult to recover from.
Consequently, there is no room to lag behind in delivering latest OS and features in their devices if Infinix must continue to grow and win buyers to their side.

2. OTA software updates which is an acronym for Over The Air cannot be overlooked.
While this is not a deal breaker for some, it is for others. Usually, smartphone savvy peeps care a lot about the ability to upgrade the operating system of their device if it becomes available and Nigerians are actually savvy.
Currently, only Samsung and HTC are the Nigerian smartphone players that gives such luxury of having OTA software upgrades in the Nigerian smartphone  market.
Tecno and Infinix devices do not have such ability for OTA OS upgrades and that could set Infinix apart from Tecno - Mobile if they start offering OTA OS updates.

Already, the cloud section of Infinix website suggests that such ability is already in the works and will be available to their customer soon enough.

From a scale of 1 - 10, the chances of increasing their user base if OTA updates becomes available to Infinix devices would be 7, apparently meaning that they have gained more followers to themselves  and this would be a deal breaker for those that that plan to get a Tecno device.

3. Serious branding is a powerful tool that cannot  be over emphasized.
A higher percentage of the Nigerian folks believe that this Infinix device is a Chinese substandard product and would rather shell out more cash to purchase phones from Samsung, Nokia and HTC even if they cost more and perform the same function with any Infinix device.

This is where branding and marketing comes to play. Infinix must re-orientate and change that perception to fully grasp the attention new, existing and target customers. In other to soak into them like sponge, that perception need to be changed and used to their advantage. No room for weakness .

4. Finally, impatience can wreck any person, company or government and smartphone companies are not an exception.

Even though it looks as though Samsung is not caring so much about their Nigerian market as to reply to any threat they face there, it should be noted that attempt to out-do Samsung in some areas would be met with stiff reply that can bounce.

Yes, the price has to be competitive, features and specs should be recent and above industry standard but trying to  introduce some gangstar features found in latest Samsung devices may drive up cost and invariably scare away the mostly middle class people that see Infinx as an excellent alternative to high priced Samsung devices. Once these buyers use the infinix product and are satisfied, they become a fan and may never return to Samsung product even if Infinix devices becomes pocket tearing in the future.

In conclusion, Infinix has a bright future in the smartphone industry if they can keep doing what they do best. These are my arguments supported by rational thinking and understanding of the modern smartphone industry and I totally believe that Inifinx with constant innovation can become a strong force not only in the Nigerian smartphone market but in other areas they operate just like Samsung and the rest.

Apple iPhone 5S and 5C Hands On Review

iPhone 5C

A number of news sites have been able to go hands-on with Apple's newly announced iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, both of which introduce a number of new features. While the iPhone 5c’s major selling point is its bright and colorful polycarbonate shell, the iPhone 5s boasts processor improvements and a new Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

iPhone 5s
In a hands-on post of the iPhone 5s, The Verge notes that the gold color “looks better in person” compared to leaked images, and notes that the "Space Gray" and white colors are very similar to the iPhone 5. The major difference between the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5 is the ring around the home button and the slightly larger flash.

iPhone 5S

Starting with that home button, it's now made of sapphire so that it can act as a reliable fingerprint reader. It's not nearly as concave as previous models — in fact, it's almost flat. Luckily, it still maintains a nice, tactile feel when you click on it and we don't foresee anybody running into any issues. We watched the fingerprint sensor unlock the phone quickly and easily (though we didn't get to try it ourselves).
Everything felt fast and fluid — although the animations in iOS 7 are still a little slow to our tastes — but scrolling in the new Safari was better than before, if only by a tiny amount.
handson5s

TechCrunch also went hands-on with the iPhone 5s, and was able to experiment with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which supports up to five different fingerprints.
Essentially you spend some time letting the sensors in the Home button get used to your fingerprint, moving your finger around slightly, lifting it up just above the surface and putting it back down, with a graphic filling out how near the software is to being able to recognize your fingerprint (you can use thumb or index finger, depending on your preference).
The process took about 30 seconds to a minute overall, and then once it had successfully identified by fingerprint, it worked flawlessly to unlock the device for every subsequent trial. It also readily rejected Greg Kumparak’s attempts, proving that it isn’t just accepting all comers.

iPhone 5c
According to TechCrunch, the iPhone 5c has a “lightness” in the hand thanks to the single-piece case design and “looks fantastic” in its array of bright colors.

All of that is made more impressive by the fact that the iPhone performs terrifically, and looks fantastic. The colors really pop, and the case fits solidly in the hand and thanks to a slightly rubberized feel it should be easier to hold onto than any previous iPhone as well. The color-match wallpapers add to the charm of the overall package, and that’s likely to appeal to customers who just want a device that looks great out of the box and doesn’t require any laborious customization.
iphone5c

Engadget thought that the iPhone 5c had a very "solid" polycarbonate build that will hold up to scuffs and drops.
There is absolutely nothing about this setup that makes us believe it's not capable of handling a full share of wear and tear, and the reinforced steel frame convinces us that it's even going to survive falls without a problem.
Speaking of which, the 5c has a glossy finish, but we were quite happy to find that it's not the fingerprint magnet that we've come to expect on other devices. It sufficiently handled the greasy fingerprints of a couple hundred journalists, so we doubt there will be any reason to be concerned about this phone looking dirty. In fact, it has a subtle shine to it that serves to complement the color selection.
The Verge was also impressed with the feel of the plastic iPhone 5c, though noted that it did not compare to the high-end feel of the iPhone 5s.
The 5c is almost like a toy, a rugged, comfortable device that doesn’t feel much heavier than the iPhone 5 despite being noticeably larger. According to Apple, the device has a larger battery than the iPhone 5, which along with its plastic shell goes a way to explaining its bulk.
This is how you make a plastic phone, though: from the cohesive shell to the smooth and glossy back (which did pick up a fair number of fingerprints) the device feels far better than Samsung’s or LG’s plastic options. Even the rubbery cases look nice, their open-circle backs fitting in nicely with the color palette.
Both the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s will be available for customers on September 20. Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 5c on September 13, but does not plan to take pre-orders for the iPhone 5s. The 16GB iPhone 5c will be priced at $99 while the 16GB iPhone 5s will be priced at $199, both with a 2-year contract.

BlackBerry Sacks More Than Half Its US Sales Employees

A new report in a small statement to the WSJ by the BlackBerry spokesperson confirmed that BlackBerry sacked more than half its US sales force.

According to the report, which originated from CantechLetter, says that the job cut was attributed to the very low sales of BlackBerry devices and "enterprise is gutted." Furthermore, the source says ”I had twenty guys (from BlackBerry) on BBM from sales, and they have all posted alternate emails on their status,”.

According to source, this laying off of sales team would spill over to  the UK soon enough.

This just further enforces that the company is readying itself to go private or get sold or even opt out of smartphones business altogether especially when it was rumored that Fairfax Financial may be looking to take BlackBerry private.

Which ever it is, we shall keep you posted as its happening.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Specs & Features

Samsung is giving its latest Galaxy Note series a stylish and hardware specs makeover with soft, leather-like back. It feels like you're holding a fancy leather-bound journal.

The 2014 edition Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a hell of a tablet. It runs Android 4.3 on a Snapdragon 800 chipset with four 2.3GHz Krait 400 cores and 3GB of RAM with Adreno 330 CPU. There’s literally nothing you can throw at it that will make it slow down.
Samsung also didn't slack in increasing the display specs; 2560 x 1600 pixels for a pixel density of 299 ppi.

That is not all, 8 MP 3264×2448 pixels auto-focus camera, face detection, HDR mode, panorama, geo-tagging; Full HD (1080p) video recording at 60fps back camera and 2MP
1080p@30fps front camera
.

Like that is not enough, the Korean company dropped in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 LE with A2DP, NFC and  Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE Quad-band UMTS/HSPA Hexa-band LTE Network suppor.

Finally, the "Note"  signature which is the S Pen with pressure sensitive touchscreen unlocking other various functions in the tablet and all powered by a Li-Ion 8,220 mAh battery

Galaxy Note 10.1, which is basically an extra-large version of the Galaxy phone, but without the mobile connectivity was unveiled on Wednesday, has the same features of the Note 3 phone, just with a bigger, 10in (26cm) screen. Like the phone, it has the leather-like backing and grooves on the side.

The tablet has a few extra bells and whistles. One of the big perks is the tablet's file organisation system, which is similar to that of a traditional personal computer. It lets you create folders and sub-folders for documents, providing easy access. Also like a PC, the tablet lets you create up to eight profiles, so you can let your children, spouse or guests use the tablet without fear that they will read your email, delete your photos or access apps you don't want them to.

The tablet also comes with a host of freebies that the phone doesn't have, including free trial subscriptions to the New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek and other news sources, along with extra space with online storage service Dropbox.

The tablet's display is bright and clear, good for watching TV or viewing photos. It also has stereo speakers and cameras on both its front and back sides.

Samsung said the phone and tablet will ship worldwide in most countries on 25 September, but it will come "later" in the US – Samsung didn't say when, other than some time before Christmas. The company also didn't say how much the devices will cost.

Infinix Alpha Ultimate Force Smartphone: Pros and Cons

Okay, we know Infinix is really gearing up now and are working tirelessly to bring nice smartphones to its loyal customers especially in Nigeria.

That being said, a new Infinix smartphone is now with the name Infinix Alpha or X570 which comes right after the Infinix Race Max Q. One cannot really say how successful the Race Max Q was, but it could be safe to assume that it did below expectations seeing how Tecno Phantom A and A+ dominated the market scene in Nigeria and other African countries where they operate.

So, what is in this Infinix Alpha that can change the table in favour of Infinix this time around? See  the specifications below to get you started. A video review also available here

Infinix Alpha is a 5.7 inch capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280, 12 mega pixel rear camera plus 5 mega pixel front camera with 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz Quad core processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 smartphone.

Furthermore, its a 2G/3G dual SIM network phone embedded with Bluetooth 4.0 technology, WiFi and WiFi hotspot capability combined with GPS and USB port for connectivity.

Infinix didn't stop there, the usual sensors common for modern smartphones are also included: G-Sensor, Light Sensor and Proximity sensors are included.
Of course, music, video and FM Radio isn't lacking and virtually common audio and video formats are supported.

The device is powered by a 2300mAh battery so as to keep things running.

Pros
Comparing it to its predecessor Race Max Q, there is a huge leap in the screen resolution from 480 x 845 to 720 x 1280. Consequently, its extremely sharp compared to the Race Max Q.

Furthermore, there is a camera upgrade from 8.0 to 12.0 mega pixel for the rear camera and from 1.2 megapixel to a whooping 5 mega pixel front camera. Skype would definitely be thrilled be this camera spec. The rear camera has a powerful flash that makes taking pictures in low light areas a breeze.

Another point which is fascinating is in the use of a corning gorilla glass 2, which is yet to be seen in any of the products made by Infinix's direct rival Tecno - Mobile.

Also, Infinix increased the operating system to Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 which is very great with excellent processor MT6589 quad core running 1.2GHz.The MT6589 is rumoured to have excellent battey efficiency. This i noticed first hand when using the X570. The battery is super strong!

Finally, increasing the ROM from 4GB to 16GB  when compared to Race Max Q is a plus to this device. This means extra space to save all those pictures captured with the 12 mega pixel camera.

Cons
One of the major shortcomings of this new Infinix Alpha is the RAM, its in our opinion that the RAM should have been like 2GB RAM seeing  how RAM of above 1GB is becoming the norm now. It would have been a plus for Infinix considering that TECNO and Gionee don't have a 2GB RAM smartphone currently. What if these rivals come out with  a 2GB RAM smartphone as their own flagship phone?

Furthermore, there is no MicroSD slot to add extra memory space to the device. This constitute a flaw that reduced its phone score by 1pt.

Finally, we were expecting to see NFC on this device since there is a rumor that NFC is coming to the next TECNO device. NFC will allow for many things especially sharing and connecting of soft items.

Verdict
Well seeing the pros out-beat the cons, its easy to say that what would ultimately determine the verdict is the price tag attached to this smartphone which starts from N45k - 49k depending on the store. Consequently I will give this device a 8/10 rating.

You guys should definitely buy it!

Well, this is it, the Infinix Alpha aka Ultimate Force smartphone. The price for this device is between N45k - N49k depending on the store you visit. Its currently being sold in Slot Ikeja, Park 'N' Shop VI and other stores.

Apple Will Stop iPhone 5 Production and Retailing For iPhone 5S

We are nearer to the launch of Apple iPhone 5S and 5C which have been slated for September 10th.

As we wait earnestly to see what exactly the fruit company packs into this new iteration of iPhone, new information have surfaced suggesting that Apple would stop the production and retailing of iPhone 5 in favour of iPhone 5S and 5C.

Initially, it was believed that iPhone 5, 5S and 5C would be sold altogether.  However analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities says that Apple may completely ditch the iPhone 5 for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

This move according to Kuo, would give iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C which do have a similar shape to iPhone 5, a better chance of selling strongly as compared to if iPhone 5 was being offered alongside the latest unreleased iPhones. What this means that only iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C would be selling.

Also, seeing that at the time iPhone 5C would be released, iPhone 5 may drop to the same price of iPhone 5. Instead of having two different Apple iPhone selling for the same price, it is best to take one of the shelf to promote the newer line of budget iPhone.

The iPhone 5S is expected to have a 12 mega pixel camera, finger print sensor, faster dual core A7 processor and a sharper screen display.

We can't wait for this iPhone 5S to be officially released. However, Apple taking off a present flagship phone (iPhone 5) for a newer soon-to-be released version is unprecedented and may not really happen as predicted by Kuo. However Kuo's predictions usually turn out to be correct.

How To Check if Your iPhone is Factory Unlocked or Not

One of the things about purchasing an iPhone from another person and not directly from vendor is that sometimes they may be locked to a network and so other network SIM card won't work on it.
Factory unlocked iPhone is more pricey than one that is locked to a network.

Well, there is a easy way to check if the iPhone you want to buy is factory unlocked or not.

METHOD 1

One method is to remove the current SIM in the device and out in another SIM from another network and see if it displays network bars. For example, put in a SIM from say AT&T and One from Verizon and see if network bars are displayed.

METHOD 2

Another method is to use an application called iTools.
On installing iTunes and iTools to your computer and connecting the iPhone to your computer, you can tell if the device is factory unlocked or not.
Launch iTools and the first page you would see will tell you that your device is activated. By click on view details, another window will come up and give you the kind of activation your iPhone is on. From the image below, ActivationState is WildcardActivated.
WildcardActivated means that the device is factory unlocked and can use any SIM card

METHOD 3

Finally, you can use web services to know if your iPhone is factory unlocked or not.
This you can do by going to this page and putting your 15 digits IMEI number into a search bar and click enter. It will return with the unlock or lock status as shown in the image below.

With this information telling you if your iPhone is locked to a particular network or factory unlocked, you would know how much to pay for the device. You would also save yourself some headache when you put in a SIM that is not intended and worrying about network bars not showing.

I hope this guide help someone make a better decision in purchasing an iPhone.

Also, there is an indication of a Android 4.3 X7 TECNO phone and V9 p in the works that would feature a quad core processor, better GPU, RAM and Screen Resolution.

One problem TECNO needs to tackle is its battery power in its devices and how much it lasts. Also, the screen of the devices should be more scratch resistant.

TECNO have come this far and should able to sustain the success by releasing better devices at lower rates in other to continue to stay relevant in the industry and give the big names a run for their money.

Nokia's Latest Nokia Lumia 625

Nokia is doing everything possible in their power to make sure that they keep smartphone consumers satisfied and also covering all angles.

Nokia have released high end and low end devices that are doing well.

Today Nokia has launched yet another budget Lumia smartphone, the 625. The big surprise it’s the 4.7 inch screen, OF WVGA(640×800) resolution. Pixel density is not exactly premium class at 201ppi, but it’s decent. Another surprise is the super sensitive screen that has only been available so far for the high end of the Lumia range, but found it’s way into the 625.

The smartphone features a 2000 mAh battery which should keep you talking for about 15 hours.

Definitely, it's a medium end smartphone with some high end device features embedded.

To be candid, it's a smartphone that would be easily cherished and appeal to  a lot of consumers.

The phone is covered with repleaceable shells created using the same technology(two colored layers) as in the smaller brother, the 620.

The device is LTE enabled, and powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, a first for Lumias. The 625 features 512MB of RAM, 8GB of built in storage, and an expansion slot that can take micro-SD cards of up to 64GB.

Camera is a 5MP module powered by a single LED flash, and can record video in 1080p at 30fps. The 625 comes with the latest Lumia Amber update installed featuring all the goodies like Nokia Smart Cam, glance screen and so on.

It will be launched in orange, yellow, bright green, white and black color flavours and should be available in the third quarter 2013, priced at about 220 Euros without local taxes or subsidies.

Nokia 625 should see sales in a market like Asia,  Africa and some parts of Europe where medium end devices thrive more than high end and low end devices.
