New 5.7in Tecno A2 aka Phantom F8: Pros and Cons

First of all, I am disappointed at the latest phone or phablet  unveiled by Tecno, called The Tecno A2 aka Phantom F8.

Is this a new line of smartphone? Perhaps it is considering the screen size of the device which is 5.7in almost 6 inches. Devices having this screen size are usually referred to as Phablet. Examples are Samsung Galaxy Note

Perhaps you might ask why I believe that this new smartphone is a disappointment, I will like to present you with its features and specifications.

TECNO A2 AKA F8 SPECS & FEATURES

Operating System: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Processor: MT6589 quad core 1.2GHz processor with embedded GPU

RAM: 1GB with 4GB internal memory with expandable MicroSD slot to 32GB

Camera: 13 mega pixel back camera and 8 mega pixel front camera. It also has a flash light for taking pictures in low light situation.Video recording capability and image size 720 x 1280.

Display: screen size is 5.7 inch with 720 x 1280 resolution. This means a HD screen but not Gorilla display.

Connectivity: WiFi and WiFi Hotspot, coupled with Bluetooth 3.0, GPS navigation, USB port and 3.5mm earphone port.

Sensors: This device is embedded with G sensor, Light sensor and proximity sensor.

Network: 3.75G/3G/2G with bands GSM900/1800MHz/WCDMA2100MHz. Dual SIM standby with SIM 1 capable of 3G/2G data connectivity while the SIM 2 can only transfer data in 2G band.

Battery capacity: battery is 2630mAh capable of giving 17.3hrs of talk time and 280hrs of standby time.

Other features: FM Radio, Voice recording, eBook reader, supports popular audio, picture and video format by default.
Size: 106 x 82 x 8.9 mm and available in black and white build.

In The Box: You get an earpiece, a USB cord, a 2-pin plug to charge. NO Power Bank this time around. This Phantom A2 doesn't come with a Power Bank

Now you have seen the specifications and you may begin to understand why I believe that I was disappointed with the specs of the device. This I will point out in pros and cons.

Cons
Firstly, the RAM of this device is too low. Most of the device in this product category which "phablet" comed with a RAM of at least 2GB.
Why can't Tecno make this device in 2GB. This would even set it apart from the newly released Infinix Alpha aka Ultimate force.

Secondly, the processor frequency is low. Expected processing frequency was 2GHz and at least 1.7GHz. This being said, this device didn't deliver in this department.

Finally, internal memory shouldn't be less than 8GB considering the camera is 13 mega pixel. Enough space should have been provided to accommodate the image size of photos taken.

Pros
First, a camera size of 13 mega pixel is good. And its a plus for this device. Furthermore, an operating system (OS) of 4.2 is great considering that inifinx offered a lower OS 4.1.2

Finally, the resolution isn't too bad but could have been better so as to compensate for the huge screen size.

Verdict
personally, I will score this device a 6/10 due to the aforementioned cons which are key and germane to a excellent phablet.

Price for this new Tecno device is N42,000 and available at Divine Anyi Coomunications Ikeja Lagos. Call 08060791362

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Specs & Features

Samsung is giving its latest Galaxy Note series a stylish and hardware specs makeover with soft, leather-like back. It feels like you're holding a fancy leather-bound journal.

The 2014 edition Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a hell of a tablet. It runs Android 4.3 on a Snapdragon 800 chipset with four 2.3GHz Krait 400 cores and 3GB of RAM with Adreno 330 CPU. There’s literally nothing you can throw at it that will make it slow down.
Samsung also didn't slack in increasing the display specs; 2560 x 1600 pixels for a pixel density of 299 ppi.

That is not all, 8 MP 3264×2448 pixels auto-focus camera, face detection, HDR mode, panorama, geo-tagging; Full HD (1080p) video recording at 60fps back camera and 2MP
1080p@30fps front camera
.

Like that is not enough, the Korean company dropped in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 LE with A2DP, NFC and  Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE Quad-band UMTS/HSPA Hexa-band LTE Network suppor.

Finally, the "Note"  signature which is the S Pen with pressure sensitive touchscreen unlocking other various functions in the tablet and all powered by a Li-Ion 8,220 mAh battery

Galaxy Note 10.1, which is basically an extra-large version of the Galaxy phone, but without the mobile connectivity was unveiled on Wednesday, has the same features of the Note 3 phone, just with a bigger, 10in (26cm) screen. Like the phone, it has the leather-like backing and grooves on the side.

The tablet has a few extra bells and whistles. One of the big perks is the tablet's file organisation system, which is similar to that of a traditional personal computer. It lets you create folders and sub-folders for documents, providing easy access. Also like a PC, the tablet lets you create up to eight profiles, so you can let your children, spouse or guests use the tablet without fear that they will read your email, delete your photos or access apps you don't want them to.

The tablet also comes with a host of freebies that the phone doesn't have, including free trial subscriptions to the New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek and other news sources, along with extra space with online storage service Dropbox.

The tablet's display is bright and clear, good for watching TV or viewing photos. It also has stereo speakers and cameras on both its front and back sides.

Samsung said the phone and tablet will ship worldwide in most countries on 25 September, but it will come "later" in the US – Samsung didn't say when, other than some time before Christmas. The company also didn't say how much the devices will cost.

New Sony Xperia Z Outstanding Tablet: Specs & Features

For many a people, owning a tablet is very important but choosing which one to get can be problematic and a onerous experience.
While Samsung and Apple tablets are taking centre stage, some may not like the UI of these tablets and may want a different feel and UI.
If you are one of these people, then the Sony Xperia Z should appeal to you.

Xperia Z is a beautifully crafted 10.1 inch tablet with stunning HD graphics, display specification and features. The display is like having a LED TV on a tablet.
Not only is this device carrying a HD screen, its also a durable device; being water and dust proof.

Consider the following specifications below if you are not yet convinced.

Weight & Dimensions
Xperia Z is quite light, having a weight of just 495g and a dimension of 6.8 x 10.47 x 0.24 inches.

Processor
Though the Xperia Z is light yet its highly powerful. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, quad-core processor of 1.5GHz powering the device while it runs the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system.

Furthermore, its GPU is Adreno 320 so it would be great for high definition games and a 2GB RAM to keep things running smoothly.

Camera
Taking pictures on mobile devices is the norm today and it would be an aberration if such powerful device doesn't have a good camera.  Well, Xperia Z has a powerful 8.1 mega pixel camera with 16x digital zoom. Also, a secondary front facing 2.2 mega pixel camera is provided for taking self pictures, skyping, etc.
It also has a 1080 HD recording capability, screen recognition and sweep panorama features.

Display
Display is stunning with the Xperia Z. First, its a TFT 10.1 inch tablet with 16 million colours and 1920 x 1200 pixels. Sony have actually imputed great screen technology on this device. A powerful Reality Display powered by BRAVA Engine 2 giving you that retina display iPad 4 owners enjoy, oh, and the screen is scratch resistant.

Build
Xperia Z is not only beautiful and brilliant but its build is also of premium quality. It's built to be water and dust proof (IPX5/7 and IPX5) so that even if you accidentally throw it into the water you can pick up your device and use. It can survive in water when submerged for as much as 30 mins.

Connectivity
Connectivity is very important in this age and Sony Xperia Z didn't disappoint in this department.
It has a LTE/4G built in modem, WiFi, NFC chip and a universal IR remote controller transmitter embedded and can also mirror your tablet with your Sony Bravia TV set or even connect to your Smartwatch. The one touch tap to connect is just beautiful and That is not all.
It has a HDMI support, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB 2.0 port, HDCP and WiFi Hotspot functionality.

Battery
What's the point of having a great device with terrible battery life?
Sony Xperia Z has a good battery to power the device and make sure you have the peace of mind when seriously using your tablet.
With Battery STAMINA mode, your battery life is significantly improved.
According to Sony, this beastly device can go 600hrs on standby.

Entertainment
Of course, Sony is known for entertainment and that means that this device is entertainment ready. It's PlayStation certified, 3D games, Video streaming, FM Radio, TV launcher amongst other things are the high points of the device.

There are more features, which you can checkup from the Sony Xperia Z Tablet web page.

Surely, this device is great and should effectively do battle with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tabs and Apple iPad if properly advertised and promoted using all available channels.

Google Building Its Own Driverless Cars

Following the news that Google spent $250M in investing in Uber this morning o that of Google making its own driverless cars aka "robo taxis".

google-driverless-car

Although Google had been working on software to help major automakers build self driving cars, it won't be wrong for it to build one of its own. Consequently, Google started designing and building its own full fledged self-driving cars. This means that Google I also in control of the entire manufacturing process.

The self driving car is rumoured to be a taxi that would pick up people from their abode or position rather than a car to be purchased by individuals due to high manufacturing cost of the prototype (around $150k).

More on the matter would shed more light on the direction Google is going with the driverless car in the near future.

Apple and Samsung Are Back in Business

Apple and Samsung are back in business. Well, they have always been in business. If its not business rip themselves apart it would be business of Samsung selling components to Apple.

According to sources from WSJ, Apple is having problem with getting enough displays for its next iPad mini that is expected to be a retina display.

Initially, LG and Sharp are supposed to be the producers and suppliers of these high resolution displays, however to ensure enough supply, the fruit company had to go to its ever persistent rival Samsung, for additional supply of the needed high resolution displays.

Though these two giants are a constant pain to each other's ass, they still remain useful to themselves - of course not for long.

The Amazing Sony Wristwatch Concept

When there will be a change in trends of things in the technology world, it always come in the form of conceptual designs and there are always signs from the internet.
Not so long ago, we started seeing all kinds of wristwatch concepts like the iWatch, Google Wristwatch and now a Sony Wristwatch concept have been revealed.

By far, this particular concept is the best I have seen. It was designed by Hiromi Kiriki.
This wristwatch is more or less a wearable mobile computer of high design. Its convertibility is the most interesting part of this concept watch (image below).

Sony Wristwatch Concept
It is constructed out of the organic flexible OLED touchscreen material. You will recall that sometime last year, Nokia revealed a similar technology in Barcelona as regards the Nokia Kinetic phone that is bendable, image after the break.

This Sony wristwatch concept can be worn as a bracelet and has 3 distinct display with a holographic keyboard.
Indeed, this concept is awesome and very catchy.
whether this will be become a reality will only be a matter of time.

Below is the Apple and Google most seen concepts

RIM Faces The World Today With Blackberry 10 Launch

RIM, the company that makes the Blackberry phone and Playbook devices will today formally launch Blackberry Z10 and X10 to the entire world.
The company had lost a lot of money in the past and still looking for a way to get back into the game; a game that Apple and Google stole from them a while back.
RIM has been struggling with this fierce competition that iPhone and Samsung is pulling, the range of smartphones offered by RIM isn't good enough to compete thereby forcing the company to completely redesign, remake and rebuild their devices from the scratch in other to retake the market they long lost.
The outcome of this new strategy is the birth of Blackberry 10

The blackberry 10 program started months back, taking all the energy, commitment and focus of the design team is expected to fulfill the dreams of its makers i.e, to put RIM back on her feet.
Whether this new device can do that will be seen from today onward when it will be officially available for sale and use and in later days to come.

As for design, flow, usability and stability during the testing stages of this device, reports are that it was superb and more than capable to rival both the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 smartphones.

Today, RIM will be in the spotlight and they should be really prepared if the BB10 doesn't meet the expectation of consumers.

On a quick note on specs, the BB 10 has a new operating system different from other previous Blackberry devices, a 1800mAh battery, 1.5GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 8mp camera, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and a 355ppi display.

Personally, I believe that this device would perform well, meet expectations and fulfill the desires and dreams of its creators.
If you think otherwise, share your thoughts and of course, in the coming days we shall know where RIM stands and the weight Blackberry 10 will pull
